THE STORY OF THE FOUNDATION

2022 FURTHER INITIATIVES FOR THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF MERDA D’ARTISTA (ARTIST’S SHIT)

The Foundation commissioned and produced a theatrical performance written and directed by Filippo Soldi, Dialoghi sulla Merda d’artista, staged at the Teatro di Documenti in Rome. Three imaginary dialogues revolved around the issues and images associated with the iconic can, performed by Pierluigi Cicchetti and Riccardo Livermore, with the exceptional participation of Flaminio Gualdoni.  For the occasion, Giacomo Ancillotto also produced the original music and a libretto for the audience.

The director Andrea Bettinetti made a short documentary on the relationship between Piero and Albisola featuring several interviews and the key locations in the seaside town. Together with the illustrator Francesco Scarponi, Bettinetti also wrote another video, this time conceived for children too, in which he told the story of the can’s journey in search of its “place in the world”.

Lastly, the artist Ben Vautier also recounted his own relationship with Piero, whom he knew personally and with whom he corresponded and discussed the Merda d’artista (Artist’s Shit).

All the videos are available on our YouTube channel.
