BIOGRAPHY

1961 SPRING PROJECTS

Josip Vaništa, an exponent of the Croat avant-garde group Gorgona, asked him for projects for the overtly experimental magazine of the same name. Sharing the title Tavole d’accertamento (Works of Verification) they remained at the proposal stage and involved a sequence of capital letters of the alphabet repeatedly reproduced until the occupied the full page; a series of fingerprints from both hands, each of which occupying a page, and a line running from page to page throughout the magazine.

On the 22nd of April, Manzoni inaugurated the exhibition Castellani & Manzoni at Plinio De Martiis’s Galleria La Tartaruga in Rome. He took advantage of this opportunity to consecrate the Sculture viventi and to distribute his Carte d’autenticità: two in particular concerned specifically the right shoes of Franco Angeli and Mario Schifano.

On the 20th of May, he introduced a solo show by Dada Maino in the Gruppo N space in Padua: the text largely drew on “Libera dimensione” and concluded: “Dada Maino has overcome the ‘pictorial problem’: other measures inform her work: her paintings are flags of a new world, they are a new meaning: they do not accept to ‘say things differently’: they say new things.”
